This is What Happens When I Don’t Get to Workout

I have been a little laid up with a cold for the last week or so and it has been nice enough to stick around and turn into a chest infection. I am not exactly bed-ridden but I am hoping for a speedy recovery before Luke’s big 30th birthday party next week so I am taking it very easy. The problem is that I tend to get the fidgets if I don’t get to burn off my excess energy and I usually end up taking it out on the house. My target today was the kitchen cupboards. Here is a before for you…

There was a bit of everything in there, but my main motivation for the clean out was to find a place for my new stand mixer that was taking up valuable real estate on my kitchen bench.

Now I know you are curious as to what I found in there so I’ll fess up to some of the more surprising items I was unaware of.

  • A Milk Shake Maker
  • A Soda Stream
  • An Easiyo Yoghurt Maker
  • An unexpected amount of sports water bottles
  • An electric grill
  • Formula bottles – Skye was never bottle fed, why do I have so many??
  • My mum’s stick blender I can only assume was borrowed when Skye first started solids

These items were in addition to the large amount of random lids and bottoms that were never going to find their mate, broken or scratched cutting boards that I would never use to prepare food on and the odd glass bowl that I can only assume was a house warming gift from grandma.

My plan of attack was to pull everything out of there and give the whole cupboard a good cleanout. I doubt I am going to do this again in the near future so there is no point cutting corners. I also figure that if I pull everything out, there is a good chance I won’t be able to squash it all back in again so I am forced to pare things back.

It was a bit daunting putting the first items back because I wanted to make sure I made things as accessible as possible, I decided that since its coming into winter and Margarita season is pretty much behind us, the blender should go to the back so I can get my hands on the slow cooker. After a bit of Cupboard Tetris I had everything back in place and I am pretty happy with the outcome.

My biggest accomplishment? I found a home for my stand mixer and I will still be able to pull it out and use it – I am happy dancing as I am typing this. Skye’s little section on the bottom left is also much more organised.

After much deliberation I decided to keep the Soda Stream, Luke’s mum had this one when he was little and it still has 2 unused gas bottles so I don’t see any reason to get rid of that little piece of nostalgia just yet.

  2. Good luck! It's so much easier to find stuff in there now, the hardest part was getting time to do it without my little helper trying to get involved.
